AFF Tip of the Week

Week of May 14, 2007 - One of the greatest conservation organizations is Trout Unlimited.  American Flyfisherman is proud to support this organization and their premier educational component for schools,  "Trout in the Classroom".  AFF has been associated with this excellent program for the last few months.  On Friday May 11, Sam and I  witnessed the sixth grade students from the Memorial Middle School in Middlefield release the Brook Trout they had raised in their classroom.  What a fantastic learning experience for these young conservation minded students.  On the students quest to bring these eggs in November to the release in May there was a tremendous sense of accomplishment.  Meanwhile, the teachers incorporated Writing, Art, Science , environment and Conservation principals as they utilized aquariums and chillers supplied by their local TU chapter, eggs and food supplied by CT DEP and CT Fisheries Division.

CT Trout Unlimited member Ted Gardziel said "This is a major milestone for the Hammonasset Chapter of Trout Unlimited and something we hope happens in multiple schools each May in CT. "  We applaud this excellent spark that get young men and women to experience the outdoors and expose them to the streamside environment and conservation Director, Chuck Bellingrath
